Work

ENTER

ENTER is a personal training and instruction platform by Sitech Services. Part of Chemelot, a big industrial complex in the Netherlands.

Problem and needs

To be able to enter a factory at the Chemelot terrain a worker needs to gain a certain kind of safety certificate by completing courses to get access and be able to enter the factory. Before ENTER the lines at the gates were very long because all courses had to be done at the gates.

The Flower Lobby

Web based tool/dashboard

Problem and needs

Working in Excel (previous solution) created a lot of discrepancies and extra workload e.g. users had to use Excel (prone to error) which needed to be manually checked by other people . This was work intensive and time-consuming.

AutoFirst

AutoFirst is a franchise for car maintenance, -repairs and used cars.

Problem and needs

The B2C platform got completely renewed to support multiple franchises. A redesign was part of the deliverables.

Manifesto

  • 1
    User-centered design

Sounds obvious coming from a UX Designer but ask yourself this with everything you do: am I adding user value?

  • 2
Colleagues might not always be end users

While colleagues are close by and easy accessible, they can give valuable insights in your design. However, keep in mind they may not be the targeted user group.

  • 3
UX Designers are not just Graphic Designers

User centered design methods are familiar to us but stakeholders may not so expectations may not be the same. Work on bridging that gap.

  • 4
    Design Test Iterate

I’m a big fan of working agile compared to waterfall. Add value quickly and measure the results.

  • 5
UX Designer is not a product owner

In my opinion the UX Designer is not the same as the Product Owner. It helps for the PO to have an helicopter view of the project instead of going into the details like a designer.

  • 6
    Stick to your guns

Advocating for the user is not always easy but it’s worth it.

  • 7
Stakeholders also might not be end users

While stakeholders are important to the product too. You should empathize with them but remember that they might not be the targeted end user.

  • 8
    First impressions matter

While there is a lot of research involved in UX design. There is a degree in subjectivity. Keep this in mind when presenting your work.

  • 9
    Team work

Design is not an job that works in isolation. A lot depends on your team. Reach out to them to get a better product and to achieve team responsibility.

About me

Andy portrait

I’ve always been interested in science, technology and good stories. This relationship between man and machine probably led to a career in user experience design.

As a curious and adventurous person I've been fortunate enough to have had many great experiences while traveling and working around the world.

From a local digital agency to an international tech company on the other side of the planet. It’s been quite the journey so far.
