Website of Provincie Flevoland, a province in The Netherlands.

Problem & needs

Expert review showed that the current website is dated and had usability issues

Goal

Redesign the website using the waterfall methodology

Process

Data analysis

Before designing I looked into existing data about the user target group. In this case, the existing website had Google Analytics running so this was a valuable source of user data.

Data collection

Because the website is so content heavy I had to analyze certain types of content so the newly designed types of pages were optimized for all kinds of content.

Data

Excel sheets described primarily and secondary goals of the pages that were required to be designed. Having a clear goal helps to tackle the problem of a page in your design.

Persona

Creating personas for the different user groups help to prioritize the goals of the redesigned website.

Project wall

For a project to come 'alive' it helps to cover a wall with prints and sticky notes. This also helps to quickly discuss problems with fellow project team members.

Wireframes

Wireframes help to properly visualize the flow users go through to reach their goals.

Sketches

For this project I was able to sketch every page type. This helps to tackle complex problems effective.

UI for mobile devices

The sketches already gave a good idea about the layout of the types of page. The most difficult part was to create a new, modern style to make the design feel unique.

UI for desktop devices

In this project we had the advantage to go through different design iterations for desktop devices. With every step we got closer to a result we were proud of . In the end we create dozens of designs for desktop and mobile devices (waterfall methodology) so the developers know everything they need to start development.
